Westküste – Parham Sound
16 Februar, 2010 | Kategorie: Segeln 2009 | 26 KommentareNachdem wir in St John einkaufen waren setzten wir noch am gleichen Tag die Segel. Wir fuhren weiter zur Nordküste, wo es dann zwei Meilen gegenan unter Motor ging bevor wir den Parham Sound erreichten. Hier im Nordosten von Antigua gibt es einige kleine Inseln, die nach Norden und Osten durch ein weitläufiges Riff geschützt sind. In dieser großen Bucht liegen auch noch einige Riffe verteilt, sodass die Navigation nicht ganz einfach ist.
Vorerst blieben wir im Lee von Long Island, einer Insel die komplett dem All inclusive Tourismus gewidmet ist. Aber viele der Bungalows stehen leer, es kommt uns so vor, als ob es mehr Personal als Gäste gibt. Das Wasser ist klar wir schnorcheln an dem nördlich gelegenen Riff und werden abends von Steelbandmusik in den Schlaf begleitet Am zweiten Tag teilen wir unseren Ankerplatz mit Extreme Adventures Touristen. Dieses extreme Abenteuer besteht darin festgeschnallt auf einem 15 m Boot mit drei Außenbordern rund Antigua geführt zu werden. Fürs Album fertigt die hübsche Hostess Fotos der angeschnallten Passagiere an. Also mir wäre das zu „extreme“. Deshalb lichten wir zwei Tage später den Anker und fahren weiter zu Great Bird Island, einer Insel nahe dem Außenriff.
Great Bird Island ist ein Naturschutzgebiet, hier soll es die seltenste Schlange der Welt geben. Der Antiguan Racer kommt nur noch hier auf der wenige Hektar großen Insel vor. Die wollen wir natürlich sehen. Doch zuvor nutzen wir zwei fast windstille Tage, um die Riffe der Umgebung zu beschnorcheln. Aus ca. 4-5 m Tiefe stehen zahlreiche Korallentürme vom Sandboden in die Höhe. Doch leider dürfte ein Hurrican in letzter Zeit die Riffe in Mitleidenschaft gezogen haben, meist gibt es nur Korallentrümer, erst zaghaft sieht man wieder lebende Korallen sprießen. Dadurch gibt es auch nicht so viele Rifffische zu sehen, wie an anderen Plätzen in der Karibik. Wir durchstreifen Great Bird Island auf der Suche nach dem Antiguan Racer. Es gleicht der Suche nach der Stecknadel im Heuhaufen. Bis jetzt haben wir keine gesehen, dafür einige große Anolis, Seevögel und von der Spitze der Insel aus große Rochen, die durch das flache Wasser ziehen. Wir sind durch eine schmale Riffdurchfahrt in die nördliche Bucht der Insel gefahren, wo wir die meiste Zeit alleine ankerten. Manchmal hat ein kleines Boote auch Vorteile!
Schön langsam gingen Vorräte und Wasser zur Neige und so segeln wir nach Parham einer kleinen Stadt über die im Segelführer steht, hier gibt es mehr Hühner als Einwohner. Und wirklich als wir zur Bushaltestelle gehen ist es auch so. Mit dem Bus geht es nach St John‘s der Hauptstadt wo wir uns wieder mit Lebensmitteln eindecken, ich bekomme neue Taucherflossen, die alten sind schon mehr als hinüber und eine Computermaus weil Bina meine zerstört hat. Na ja, ihr ist sie halt zuletzt hinuntergefallen, was mir vorher auch schon oft passiert ist. Zurück ging es wieder mit dem Bus wobei das ja nicht ganz so ist wie bei uns. Die Busse stehen auf einem „Bahnhof“ manche offen, da kann man einsteigen wenn man errät wohin er fährt. Wenn er voll ist wird abgefahren. Wenn man aussteigen will ruft man einfach „Stopp“ und er hält an. So kommen wir wieder nach Parham schleppen unsere Lebensmittel zum wartenden Dingi und genießen am Abend gebackene Hühnerflügel mit Erdäpfelsalat.
