Wir müssen aufpassen ist doch das Gebiet nördlich und westlich von Bermuda mit Riffen gespickt, die schon hunderten Schiffen zum Verhängniss wurden. Doch alles halb so schlimm, heute markieren Bojen die Fahrrinne und nach dem umrunden von Ft Catharine an der Nordspitze Bermudars liegt eine 10-12 Meter tiefe Lagune vor uns. Wir probieren das Segel setzten, alles läuft wie geschmiert, wir haben alles richtig eingezogen. Auch die Instrumente gehen alle wieder, das Löten war also erfolgreich. Fünf Stunden später ankern wir bei Ireland Island südlich von Dockyard, wo die großen Kreuzfahrtschiffe anlegen.
Am nächsten Morgen besichtigen wir Dockyard, ein Sammelsurium von alten britischen Gebäuden, einem Fort, sowie ehemalige Reparaturhallen, Lagerhäusern und Nebengebäuden. Hier wurden von der Regierung Bermudas in den letzten Jahrzehnten viele Sammlungen untergebracht, die Lagerhallen wurden in Shoppingmalls umgebaut, damit die Touristen der Kreuzfahrtschiffe gleich vor Ort ihr Geld ausgeben können. In den Museen sind Münzsammlungen, altes Kriegsgerät, Puppenhäuser, Berichte über den Militärstützpunkt, die Sklaverei auf Bermuda und seine Rolle als Versorgungsposten der Südstadten im Sezessionskrieg untergebracht. Den ganzen Vormittag streifen wir über das Gelände, bis uns der Hunger wieder auf das Schiff treibt.
Bei Windstille motoren wir nachmittags zu einer der Inselgruppen im Hamiltonsound, wo wir eine geschützten Ankerplatz für die Nacht finden. Bei 26° C Wassertemperatur ziehen wir ein letztes Mal die Tauchsachen an und erkunden die Unterwasserwelt Bermudas.
Montag hat der Wind aus Südwest zugenommen, wir nützen den für uns günstigen Wind, und segeln zurück in die Bucht von St George, ankern dort hinter Smith’s Island. Dienstag näht Sabina die Sprayhood nach, während ich mich auf die Suche nach dem Elektroteufelchen mache, das zeitweilig unsere Instrumente ausser Betrieb setzt. Hinter dem Schaltpaneel finde ich ein lockeres Kabelende, unglaublich was sich auf einem Schiff so auseinanderbeuteln kann.
Mittwoch fahren wir mit dem Bus ins BIOS, dem ozeanographischen Institut und machen eine der öffentlichen Führungen mit. Anschließend begeben wir uns auf die Fotojagd nach Bermudas einheimischen Schildkröten, von denen man erst seit kurzem weiß, dass sie nicht von den ersten Siedlern zu Nahrungszwecken mitgebracht wurden. Sie leben nur in drei Gewässern auf Bermuda, die zum größten Teil auf dem Mid Ocean Golf Course liegen. Wir haben Glück es sind kaum Golfer unterwegs und so können wir auf dem Gelände ungestört herumspazieren. Letzendlich können wir sogar ein paar der Tiere sehen und unsere Fotos schießen.
Heute, Donnerstag ist der Wetterbericht günstig, wir werden im Laufe des Tages zu den Azoren aufbrechen. Für die nächsten Tage sind eher leichte Winde aus Süd bis West angesagt. Wir werden Martin, Sabinas Bruder täglich unsere Position funken, die dann von ihm auf der Karte in bereits gewohnter Weise eigetragen wird. Danke Martin für deine Hilfe!
